Review: Signing up with OMG was the biggest mistake I have made in my 10yrs as a business owner. If you’re considering using them, run. For me it wasn’t just a case of throwing $20K+ in the bin – it was also six figures of lost income in my biz, and trying to hold them accountable to their promises (which felt like handling a slippery eel that has a 14 day turnaround on email replies).I very rarely provide negative reviews, but feel compelled to tell my story in the hope that it spares someone from experiencing my exhaustion, pain and financial loss. Facts as follows:I met with OMG 12 months ago. At the time we already had Adwords and SEO, but I wanted improvement in the Ads space. Over several meetings Saf assured me they could make some big changes which should reduce conversion costs by >30%.Our SEO was already performing well (first page of Google for the 4 main search terms in our profession), but Saf pitched that they also take this, claiming we could be ‘top 5’ in 12m and ‘top 3’ within 24 months. I expressed doubt, but he felt confident to stand by it.Saf’s pitch was tight, I asked thorough questions and always got good answers. Based on these promises and their intelligent reports / analysis, they took over both accounts. Then the pain:Over the next four months, Ads conversion cost increased from $150 to an eyewatering $346. In SEO, we started dropping off Google’s first page for main search terms. The consultant in our fortnightly check-ins smothered these facts, reporting the tiny positives and ignoring the housefire that demanded our focus now. But I’d already had SEO / Adwords experience, so I looked past the thin convos and challenged them on the data.I gently raised my concerns in month two, then increasingly as the months went on.I received a set of promises. All were broken. Then more promises, via a senior consultant. More broken. Incredibly, there was zero A/B testing on my ads, nor were there new pages built. They simply took my existing ads and charged me whilst running them into the ground. In January I asked that they end our 12m contract, as they simply weren’t delivering. They refused. In April, after three months of respectfully asking, they agreed to cancel my Adwords subscription. But they refused to reduce my monthly direct debit, explaining the money previously going to Adwords was automatically redirected to SEO! This was beyond unethical, and hurt more because their incompetence in SEO matched their Adwords – lots of talk, lots of promises, but a complete and total failure of delivery. It took an absurd amount of pushing the unfairness of this offer for them to cancel my Adwords debit, but they refused to end my 12m SEO contract, which, by now, was a train wreck:At the beginning we’d agreed upon four main ‘focus’ search terms, basically search terms with the highest search volumes for our profession. Having already used SEO for a few years, we had good traction with all four rankings already – so the focus was improvement.Using their ‘omg rankings’ tool to compare performance from beginning to the end of our 12m contract, EVERY ‘focus’ search was a car crash:- 9th (first page) down to 17th (second page)- 7th to 16th- 6th to 13th- 9th to 17thWhen we started with OMG we had 8 positions in the Top10. At the end of the 12 months, we had 0. My new SEO specialist has said that if I’d turned SEO off altogether for the same period, my rankings would be better than having used OMG’s services. Incredibly, I’ve never had a single explanation for these poor results. Just apologies, and unfulfilled promises. The last four months was just as poor as the first eight. Rankings kept sliding. My account manager quit and I was assigned an overseas replacement. Normal stuff by their standards. If you’re thinking of using OMG, don’t fall for the sharp pitch. Their front end (sales) is magnificent – looks / talks / feels 5-star. But the people ‘doing the work’ have zero care about your success, regardless of their performance. Save the heartache and money. Go elsewhere.
